A2 STEAM Bike to School Day
Wednesday, May 3, 2017
 (Rain date Thursday, May 4)

All bikers are invited to arrive at the back of school near snack table at 7:55 am for a group photo!
Bike Route Planning: The National Center for Safe Routes to School provides helpful information, including safe route planning, at walkbiketoschool.org/. Please consider planning a group walk or bike with other families in your neighborhood.

Bike Safety: Parents/guardians are responsible for children’s safety traveling between home and school, so please accompany your young bikers to school.  All children must have a helmet and a bike lock. A2 STEAM is not responsible for unsecured bikes. Please do not leave bikes at school overnight.  Let your bus driver know if your child won’t be riding. PARENTS: BE A GOOD EXAMPLE—USE CROSSWALKS, SIDEWALKS AND WEAR A HELMET!

Looking for Volunteers: Five Parents/Grandparents/Guardians are needed to be stationed at key crosswalks and corners to help our students safely cross the streets and we are looking for 9 volunteers to help with snacks, stickers and incentives.
Please sign-up here to volunteer.

Tips and tricks for riding with kids: Riding with kids slows you down, and that’s not a bad thing. Beyond creating future bike riders, ingraining street skills, and engaging in physical activity, biking with kids is fun. Here’s how to make the most of it.

a2gether Thanking Ms Fitz!!!

Thank you Principal Fitzgibbons for your many years of service.  The picture (above) is a token from your STEAM community and will hold its place on the playground. This Buddy Bench is made of recycled material from a company right here in Michigan dedicated to Joan's legacy at STEAM.   The sixth graders are ready to go with their instructions on how to implement the bench to the younger grades.  It is intended for any child who feels they need someone to play with for any reason, to go sit on the bench and fellow students have a goal to respond in no less than a minute to introduce themselves and invite their friend to come play with them.

To the parents and PTSO Executive Board who attended the assembly, thank you for your support.  It was definitely a bit emotional saying goodbye (hence the box of tissues). We have had an amazing start at STEAM and we look forward to the future!

Sinking Fund MillageA Sinking Fund is the millage levied in Michigan to support the repair and construction of school buildings.  Sinking Fund dollars protect critical General Fund dollars that must be preserved for instruction, programs, salaries and other essential district operating costs. Under state law, sinking fund proceeds may not be used to pay teacher or administrator salaries.

The Board of Education has voted to place an increase to the AAPS Sinking Fund Millage on the May 2, 2017 ballot in order to meet district facility/physical property needs.
